29.10.2012 - 29.10.2012
Left Moruya at 0905 this morning on the bus to the Sydney International Airport. We made reasonable time and arrived at Sydney's Mascot International at 1530 and sat in the departure hall until Hawaiian commenced their check-in at 1800hr and we made our way through Security and Immigration. No great drama and we were on the 'clean' side by about 1815. A quick bite and walked to the furthest departure lounge in the complex.
Sat around the lounge at Gate 60 and finally boarded Hawaiian Airlines flight HA452 at 2115 local time. The flight was delayed by about 30 minutes due to the late arrival of the incoming aircraft. The flight lasted 9.75 hours and we landed in Honolulu at 1025 local time having made up a little time - yes still Monday 8-). With a number of other aircraft landing at about the same time there was considerable congestion at the US Border Control desk. There were about 50 Officers working but with them having to scan each hand, each thumb and take our photo, each individual took quite a while to process.
Transfer to the hotel was not as efficient as it could have been. No fault of the of the transfer company but one couple didn't check in for the best part of half an hour. Perhaps I was being a little critical but you'd have to wonder at their initiative,
On the way to the hotel we went past the Cruise Ship Terminal and were surprised to see a Celebrity ship in port, the Millennium isn't due in until Thursday. Turned out to be a 'sister' the Century.
Reception at the Aqua Wave was prompt and efficient. We've been up-graded to the 10th floor, last time we were on the 3rd. We're also at the back of the hotel, away from the rather noisy markets. Spent some time sorting out some of the luggage and Jenny caught up on some lost sleep while I tracked down the ticket office for the Waikiki Trolley. We have a 7 day, all route pass with free admission to the Zoo and the Aquarium. There will certainly be plenty to keep us occupied.
Went out for a quick 'snack' and then ventured out on the 'trolley' to the Ala Moana Center, a huge complex of over 200 shops and restaurants. We spent an hour or two orienting ourselves and plan to revisit the place for some serious shopping.
Back to Waikiki and another quick snack and we're both ready to crash. I finished this entry on Tuesday morning as I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.
More tomorrow 8-)
